Hfobia is a pole dance performance presented in a display window, consisting of three separate solos. The work explores the good girl–bad girl dichotomy, forbidden positions, and the dismantling of embodied walls. Hfobia is the artist’s personal attempt to reprogram assumptions held both by performer and by society about movement, pole dance, and sexuality. The solos draw inspiration from roles historically imposed on women – Madonna, victim, and whore – but instead of repeating these established archetypes, the work seeks alternatives. What images of womanhood exist today or might exist in the future? Do we need such images?
